Office Information: Frequently Asked Questions

Why this information?

This section is an introduction to our office. It tells what we do, how to reach us, what to expect from us, and what we expect from you. We feel this will help in establishing friendly, mutual understanding between physician and patient. We suggest that you save this for Future reference.

What do our doctors do?

They are specialists in orthopaedic surgery, which covers the care of the musculoskeletal system — bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves and related structures of the human body. Their primary interests are: 1) Surgery of the hip 2) Surgery of the knee. A large percentage of their practice is total joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, and other reconstructive procedures of the knee. They are also available for the management of fractures and dislocations of the extremities. They accept physician- referrals of patients with low back pain. They do not treat cerebral palsied children or children with scoliosis. For problems outside their field we will assist you in finding an appropriate physician.

Why is a patient-physician relationship important?

We feel strongly that satisfactory medical care depends on a relationship of confidence and trust between the physician and patient. We strongly encourage you to feel completely free to ask questions about your medical care. We feel that it is important for you to understand what is being done and why. We welcome second opinions - be straightforward about this - we will provide records for a second opinion to the physician of your choice or we will help you arrange a second opinion if you wish.

Why all the questions?

The receptionist will ask you to fill out a patient information form. You will also be asked to supply some pertinent medical data so give some thought to your past medical history beforehand. These questions are a necessary part of the examination so the doctor can know as much as possible about you. Your address and phone number are needed in case the doctor needs to get in touch with you. Information concerning occupation, age, etc., is likewise important because it has a bearing upon your health and physical status.

We do ask you to pay for office visits and treatments at the time the service is rendered?

An estimate of the charges for any procedures you may require will be given to you upon request and we encourage you to ask. Our fees will vary depending upon the extent of examination and whether or not special medical supplies, x-rays, injectibles, therapy treatments, etc., are required for your care. If surgery is indicated our office will submit your primary insurance claim; however, it is the patients responsibility to make sure their account is paid in full within 60 days after surgery. If you have no insurance you will probably be asked to pay the surgical fee before the service is rendered. Fees, resulting from emergency surgery, can pose a burden on the financial resources of a family. We are pleased to cooperate with you in establishing a payment program that will not create a hardship. Please feel free to discuss this with our office.
