Double Knee Replacement Patient

Dear Mort and Miriam,
Hi from Cincinnati!! I can't believe it has been almost 3 months since my surgery and I keep asking myself, "Why did I wait so long?" Well, I really know why. It was because I was scared to death at the thought of surgery! I had seen doctors here in Cincinnati but still felt confused and afraid! Knowing you as a family friend, never thinking I would go to Florida for surgery, I felt maybe I could just talk to you and get some advice. You were very straightforward with me and put me at ease. You gave me the confidence and assurance that I needed. After a visit to Florida I knew right away you were the one to do the surgery!

I am doing great from my double knee replacement surgery. I just wanted to thank you both so much for all of the great care that you gave me. I had my surgery on March 2nd, and have been doing great ever since. I was swimming just 14 days after the surgery and even attempted the stairs after 3 weeks. I am now exercising almost every day including taking a water aerobics class twice a week, lifting weights and doing 35 min. of cardio 3 days a week on the elliptical machine, and just plain walking. These are the things that I haven't been able to do in years. Friends and family are amazed at all that I can do, in such a short period of time. I used to have such severe back pain, in addition to the knee pain. I couldn't even stand for 5 minutes with back pain and weakness. I also couldn't walk for any distance without severe knee pain. It really took a toll on my shopping habits, ha ha. The back pain has disappeared and my knees feel great! I have had very little pain in my knees since the surgery, just sore muscles from using the muscles that I wasn't able to use for years. I used to have to lean on a shopping cart to just go through the grocery store. Now I can shop all day, much to the dismay of my husband.

I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for the wonderful job you did with my surgery. I was really apprehensive about having the surgery after hearing of other people's experiences. I felt really comfortable with your explanations and your confidence. The hospital staff also said such nice things about you, and what a great surgeon you are. I truly feel like a "new woman!!" It is really a miracle the way I feel now compared to 3 months ago. I also wanted to thank you for the nice bouquet of flowers that you sent to the hospital. Miriam, you were so thoughtful and gracious answering all of my husband's questions and making the arrangements for surgery, follow-up therapy etc...
